Open your eyes, Chicago, and meet the gaze of a 30-foot eyeball. That stare from the 30-foot “EYE” sculpture, officially opens this morning in Chicago’s Loop. Tony Tasset is the artist behind the eyeball.

For help with his handiwork, Tasset turned to Wisconsin-based Fiberglass Animals, Shapes & Trademarks. Sculptors built and painted the ocular mass by hand, using between 8,000 and 9,000 pounds of fiberglass and another 9,000 pounds of steel.

“Tony’s a great guy to work with,” says Darren Shauf, general manager of F.A.S.T. “He’s got a great eye.”

This is the coolest negative edge pool or infinity pool we’ve ever seen. These kind of pools look like the water of the pool extends to the horizon. We’ve seen negative edge pools by an ocean or a big lake, but never like this. This is the Bomb!!! In The reality of this type of pool is that water spills over the edge into a catchment, and the water pumped back into the pool.

This is located on the top of the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Looks scary, huh!? Check out the video.

A LONE masked burglar ripped masterpieces worth $725 million (WOW!) from the walls of a Paris gallery today in one of the biggest art heists in history. Iconic paintings by Picasso, Matisse sand Modigliani were among those taken in the daring dawn raid. Staff discovered the five irreplaceable 20th century works missing when they arrived for work early at the city’s Museum of Modern Art. One officer at the scene revealed: “He was heavily disguised with a hood and face covering.”

The paintings stolen were Pablo Picasso’s 1912 oil painting ‘Dove with Green Peas’, ‘Pastoral’ by Henri Matisse (1906), ‘The Lady with the Fan’ by Amedeo Modigliani (1919), ‘The Olive Tree near Estaque’ by George Braque (1906), and ‘Still Life with Chandeliers’ by Fernand Leger (1922).

Andre Kikoski and his designed restaurant within Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece museum, the Guggenheim, was just named the 2010 James Beard Foundation Award winner for Outstanding Restaurant Design.

Kikoski’s design for The Wright garnered raves for its ability to translate Wright’s vocabulary into the small space, enhanced with a brilliantly colored aluminum wall sculpture by artist Liam Gillick. “Our use of color was muted and restrained,” Kikoski told us, “while his is vibrant and audacious. We were both committed to the idea that this had to work like the museum, where the symbiosis of art and architecture exhibits perfect complementarity.”

Pablo Picasso‘s 1932 portrait of his blonde mistress has been snapped up for $106.4 million. This sets a new world record for the most expensive work of art sold at auction. The jewel-toned painting called Nude, Green Leaves and Bust sold at Christie’s in New York to an anonymous telephone bidder who paid the equivalent of £70.3m for the piece.

The sale breaks the $104.3m (£68.9m) record set three months ago by Alberto Giacometti’s Walking Man I sculpture at Sotheby’s.

The Picasso was priced to sell for between $70m and $90m. The painting, of the artist’s mistress Marie-Therese Walter, is from a collection of the Los Angeles philanthropist Frances Lasker Brody, who died in November.

Over 375 feet high, which is 72 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty Anish Kappor’s Arcelor MittalOrbit has been chosen as the monument to mark the London Olympics in 2012. Work is due to start on the steel sculpture in the next few weeks. The cost of the 1,400 ton steel structure has been put at around $30 million, although most of the bill is being picked up by steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal who, like Kapoor, is India born, but resides in the British capital.
