A blind pedigree dog has had an ‘extreme’ facelift which means she is able to see for the first time since being born a year ago.

Molly, a Shar Pei, had a condition called entropion where folds of skin rubbed against the eyes.

The painful disease left the puppy unable to see – but she has now had her sight restored after two operations last week. Vet Richard Marks removed the offending skin and stitched it to the back of her head.

He said the dog was suffering from the worst case of entropion he had ever seen, adding the dog’s disability was caused by severe inbreeding. Her owner Louise Walsh, from Romford in Essex, England reportedly bought Molly for $800 in September, but has already paid $1200 in vet bills.

The Kennel Club announced new regulations to prevent close family mating last year.
