Using a cellphone as a credit card has been in practice for years in Japan and South Korea. Now it’s finally gonna hit the US, with Bank of America’s pilot program launching next month.

Bank of America is partnering with Visa for the pilot program, which will run from September until the beginning of January in New York. Visa will supply small chips, that users can install into their phones. The users can then complete transactions by simply waving their phones near the point-of-sale devices that Visa will supply to select stores.

Verizon Wireless will start selling Apple’s iPhone next year, ending AT&T’s U.S. exclusive on the phone, according to two people on the inside. The device will be available to customers in January, according to two people, who declined to be named because the information isn’t public. Natalie Kerris, an Apple spokeswoman, and Jeffrey Nelson, a Verizon Wireless spokesman, declined to comment. AT&T also declined to comment.

Bing just upped its effort in the search engine war against Google with an updated iPhone app. Just in time for iOS4′s firmware update, the app has a bunch of tweaks, but one, real Google-beater: Barcode scanning for quick product IDs.
