Mönchengladbach (dpa) – 1. FC Union is negotiating with goalkeeper Loris Karius and his current club Liverpool FC about a transfer.
“Loris Karius is a possible new addition”, Berlin manager Oliver Ruhnert confirmed after the 1-1 tie in the Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach and pay TV broadcaster Sky. Talks have progressed, but the change has not yet been resolved, Ruhnert added.
The manager does not want to see the intended use of another goalkeeper as a loss of confidence for the current number one Andreas Luthe, who has taken Union from FC Augsburg. “Andi Luthe is partly responsible for having a point here. We are very satisfied with him”, Ruhnert emphasized in Mönchengladbach.
Karius no longer plays a role in the plans of Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp. The 27-year-old was already on loan to Besiktas Istanbul, but returned in May. Karius has already played 91 games for FSV Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga.
