Enstone (AP) – Fernando Alonso just doesn’t want to waste time on his Formula 1 comeback. The two-time world champion is already preparing for his return to Renault’s Alpine F1 team at the age of 39.
Like Marcin Budkowski, Renault’s general manager, Alonso is even pressuring the team to work on New Year’s Day contrary to what is usual.
The background is that the fundamentally new cars for the season after next year (2022) can only be tested in the wind tunnel from next year. They were recently in the wind tunnel in Enstone at the racing team’s headquarters in Britain, Budkowski said according to the Formula 1 homepage.
Alonso asked them when they could test the 2022 car there. They would have replied to the Asturian: from January 1, but that they normally wouldn’t. “And he said, Okay, we’ll do it on January 1. I’ll come here and help,” said Budkowski, praising, “That shows Fernando’s current motivation.”
Alonso returns to the premier class of motorsport after a two-year hiatus. The Oviedo driver had celebrated his greatest successes with Renault: Alonso won the world title in the French car in 2005 and 2006. In 2001 he entered the first motorsport class.
