2nd competition

Kiel (AP) – Hamburger SV fluctuates between satisfaction and worry. After the 1-1 draw in the top game at Holstein Kiel, the league-leader of the 2nd Bundesliga is in a brilliant position on his third attempt to return to the Bundesliga.

17 points in seven games, no lost game, five points ahead of the relegation place – under coach Daniel Thioune it goes. However, the coach warns regularly. The rise in vocabulary is on the index of those responsible for HSV. As Thioune always emphasizes, it’s mainly about the development of the team.

And this is exactly what the observer in the northern derby against Holstein Kiel doubted. After development, it didn’t look like what the front runner had to offer. HSV was flattered in the first half with figures such as 75 percent possession and a strong success rate. The apparent superiority ostensibly came about through helpless ball confirmation between defenders and goalkeeper Sven Ulreich. With Kiel cleverly reducing the space, HSV had difficulty opening the match and getting in front of the hosts’ goal. In the second section, the team was largely in the back.

Joshua Mees’ late stoppage goal (90 + 1), who had been replaced three minutes earlier, brought bad memories back to life. In the preseason under trainer Dieter Hecking, the hits at the last minute were one of the biggest annoyances at HSV. Some points were left behind. This is one of the reasons why the climb failed. Could that be another stumbling block for Hamburg?

“We don’t get anything for last season. We don’t pay anything for that,” said coach Daniel Thioune. That probably means that the coach doesn’t want to open this barrel at all, so as not to get his back team in trouble again. Last season had also started well. After seven games, Hamburg was second with 16 points. Two years ago it was only 13 points in third place. The end of the song is known: twice fourth, promotion missed.

Thioune does not want to make a lot of fuss about the PhD trajectory of his team so far. “I said we still stumble from time to time. This draw is also part of our development process – we have to learn lessons from it,” he said of the performance in Kiel. Thioune also knows how to motivate the team after bitter moments such as the cup break against Dresden or the late equalizer against Kiel. Goalscorer Moritz Heyer said just minutes after the draw in Kiel: “We are still undefeated, we will continue and will win again after the international break.”
