2nd competition

Kiel (AP) – The goal against Holstein Kiel in injury time spoiled Hamburger SV’s mood. Three minutes after he was substituted, Kiel striker Joshua Mees made it 1: 1 (0: 1).

Moritz Dreyer headed HSV to the lead. In the fifth game in the second division against Kiel, the Hamburg team missed a victory. In the preseason under trainer Dieter Hecking, the hits at the last minute were one of the biggest annoyances. Some points were left behind. Could that be another stumbling block for Hamburg?

“We don’t get anything for last season. We don’t pay anything for that,” said coach Daniel Thioune. That probably means that the coach doesn’t want to open this barrel at all, so as not to get his back team in trouble again.

After seven games without a defeat, HSV is the leader with 17 points. The relegation place is five points away. It is better than in previous years. Last season, Hamburg was second after seven games with 16 points, two years ago third with 13 points. The end of the song is known: twice fourth, promotion missed.

“We gave up the game because we didn’t play the counterattacks,” said Thioune. The 46-year-old coach does not want to make a fuss about his team’s promotion process so far. “I said we still stumble every now and then. This draw is also part of our development process – we have to learn lessons from it,” he said.

Center-back Toni Leistner, who returned for the first time after his second suspension of the season, was confident. “I am still confident that we will continue our good run after the international break.” HSV will receive VfL Bochum in just under two weeks, then it will go to Heidenheim. After that, the Hamburgers still want to be unbeaten.
