At least 44 Taliban fighters have been killed in a security operation in Afghanistan. The Afghan army said in a statement on Saturday that they were killed in a day-long operation in the northern province of Kunduz. However, the Taliban did not comment on the matter.
The military statement said the dead included three local commanders of the armed group known as Qari Abdullah alias Hijran, Mollah Khairullah alias Qari Ahmed and Qari Hafiz.
The statement quoted senior Army Commander General Adam Khan Matin as saying that 36 more militants were injured during the operation.
However, the Taliban has not yet commented on the report.
