Eight people infected with coronavirus died in a fire in a private hospital in Turkey. The explosion occurred in the southeastern province of Gaziantep on Saturday. Qatar-based Al Jazeera quoted hospital officials as saying.

Hospital officials said in a statement that Sanko University Hospital caught fire after the oxygen machine caught fire. The oxygen machine was being used in the intensive care unit to treat patients with corona.

Seven patients died on the spot due to fire. Another person died of burns while being taken to another hospital. The dead were aged between 65 and 75 years. Corona patients have been referred to several local hospitals in the hospital.

Police and fire brigade reached the spot. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been started.
