Practicing professional sports at the age of 61 is hardly possible. Darts is an exception. At the current World Cup in London, the English Deta Hedman wants to cause a sensation at this age.
Who gets the sporting opportunity of a lifetime at the age of 61? Except in darts, this is hardly conceivable in top sport. Competing with the martial nickname “The Dark Destroyer”, Deta Hedman will take part in the men’s World Cup for the first time this Saturday (8pm / Sport1 and DAZN) and could make history against her English compatriot Andy Boulton. Hedman would only be the second woman to win a man’s World Cup if she succeeds in a surprise opening win. Fallon Sherrock had two consecutive wins last year.
A lot has changed for the 26-year-old with the coup d’état at Alexandra Palace in London. “It was totally crazy in many ways. The start of the year was incredible for me. There was so much media interest,” Sherrock said before the tournament against dpa news agency, for which it barely qualified this time. Then Corona came and Sherrock withdrew. Since she’s wearing a mask in public, she’s been recognized less often, Sherrock said. You will find the schedule of the Darts World Cup 2021 here.
