Cologne (AP) – Ex-national player Jonas Hector is after a two and a half month hiatus before returning to the squad of Bundesliga football club 1. FC Köln.
“Little by little we integrated him into the game formats during practice, he is well prepared,” said coach Markus Gisdol on Thursday. The decision as to whether Hector will be in the game on Saturday (3.30pm / Sky) at FSV Mainz 05 is something Gisdol wants to leave to the team captain after the injury has healed. “Jonas decides that. He is an experienced player and knows his body. When he is ready, our captain will be there,” said the coach.
Hector was last used on September 26 at the match in Bielefeld for Cologne and has since been injured. In October, the 30-year-old announced his resignation from the German national team after 43 caps.
Cologne wants to continue their upward trend against Mainz after four points from the two previous games. The personal situation must provide more momentum. Except for the injured Rafael Czichos and Florian Kainz, all professionals have recently been in training. “The personnel situation is good. We have a full relationship. That helps the performance development of the team,” explains Gisdol.
