Privas (AP) – After his early retirement from the Tour de France, the fallen classic John Degenkolb is on the mend.
“I’m more confident than the past few days. Things are going up again. The swelling in my knees is still there, but it’s gotten better,” Degenkolb told ARD. On Wednesday he was on his bike for the first time for an hour.
The 31-year-old crashed heavily in the first stage of the Tour and then missed the time limit. He doesn’t want to take any chances before he starts racing again. “I will do everything I can to be in top form again in the classics in October.” The cycling world championships in Imola at the end of September is not an issue due to the many altimeters.
