Imola (AP) – The Formula 1 team Alfa Romeo will also rely on Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi as regular drivers next season.
The race team announced the renewal of contracts with both drivers before the race in Imola. This means that there will be no free cockpit for Mick Schumacher (21) at Alfa Romeo next year. It has recently been speculated that the son of Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher could make his premier league debut with the team in 2021.
Now there is a lot of evidence that Mick Schumacher is moving to the Haas race team. The American team does not yet have a driver under contract for the new season. Haas has a technical partnership with Ferrari. Schumacher is trained in the Driver Academy of Scuderia and leads the Formula 2 general classification shortly before the end of the season.
Alfa Romeo, however, opted for continuity with the former world champion Räikkönen and the Italian Giovinazzi. The 41-year-old Finn Raikkonen last drove his 325th Grand Prix in Portugal, no driver has more starts in Formula 1. The coming year will be his 19th season in the racing series. The team is “like a second family” to him, Raikkonen said. The 26-year-old Giovinazzi is also sponsored by Ferrari. Alfa Romeo is also supported by Scuderia with engines and technical assistance.
