Police investigators searched living and office space in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on suspicion of extremism against a 40-year-old soldier. Since the early hours of the morning, 70 officials have been on duty in the Neubrandenburg region, political magazine ARD Kontraste reported Monday.
A Defense Ministry spokesman told the German news agency, “We are aware of the incident.” The starting point is extensive investigations by the Military Counter-Intelligence Service (MAD) in close cooperation with the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and law enforcement agencies, said a MAD spokeswoman in Cologne.
The Rostock prosecutor’s office confirmed upon request to the Kontraste editorial office that they were investigating a 40-year-old German “on suspicion of preparing a serious, state-threatening act of violence under Article 89a of the Criminal Code”. According to information from Kontraste, the suspect is an active Bundeswehr soldier stationed in the Tollense barracks in Neubrandenburg. The man maintains contacts in extreme right-wing circles. He was very cooperative with the searching agents.
