The “Gunners” celebrate an important victory in the classic “Red Devils”. The ex-BVB goalscorer becomes the match winner. Manchester United, on the other hand, were disappointed across the board.
Arsenal FC took a prestigious victory in the Premier League, plunging England football champions Manchester United deeper into the crisis. The Londoners won 1-0 (0-0) at Old Trafford on Sunday. For Arsenal it was the first competitive success with the Red Devils since September 2006. The winning goal was scored in the 69th minute by former Dortmund player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a penalty kick. His teammate Hector Bellerin had previously made a mistake in the penalty area by Manchester player Paul Pogba.
In the current season, the two former top teams have so far lagged significantly behind expectations. Arsenal FC have won four of their seven league games and lost three. Man United, who has played one less game, has only two wins in a draw and three losses in six games. The pressure on coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, for whom it was the 100th game as coach of Man United, should increase again after the home defeat.
Before the game, the players and coaches of both teams remembered former Man United professional footballer and England national footballer Nobby Stiles at Old Trafford. The 1966 world champion died last Friday at the age of 78.
