London (dpa) – Chelsea have major staff problems before the round of the 16th stage in the Champions League at Bayern Munich.
Ex-Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic, captain César Azpilicueta and Pedro were injured in the 1-2 defeat in the FA Cup final against London city-mate FC Arsenal.
The magnitude of Pulisic and Azpilicueta’s muscle injuries had yet to be determined, but they “would clearly not be suitable for next week,” said blues coach Frank Lampard. For the Spaniard Pedro, who leaves the club after the season, it was ‘probably’ the last game for Chelsea because of the shoulder injury.
Bayern will receive the English Premier League club in the battle for the quarterfinals in the premier class on August 8 and have the best opportunities after the 3-0 away win in the first game. Chelsea had already refrained from using the ailing N’Golo Kanté sitting on the bench against Arsenal, Ruben Loftus-Cheek was missing. “I’m not looking for excuses because we didn’t play well enough, but it felt like the turning point when everything came together at the same time,” said Lampard about the new injuries in the FA Cup final.
