Berlin (dpa) – Before his 1. FC Union Berlin’s home game in the Bundesliga against Borussia Dortmund, trainer Urs Fischer stated again that he did not know how to deal with BVB coach Lucien Favre, who is now on leave.
He has not yet been able to speak to his Swiss colleague in person. But it was not an easy time for Favre. “He has received a lot of criticism. Partly absurd for me,” said Fischer a day before the match against Dortmund on Friday (8.30 pm / DAZN and ZDF).
Favre was the best Dortmund coach on points and developed a playing style that was dynamic, fast and precise. “As a coaching colleague you ask yourself: what do you want to do?” The Union coach noted. But “of course you are measured on points as a coach”. He is sorry “if a coaching colleague loses his job, but that is part of the company,” added Fischer.
Edin Terzic had taken over the role of Favre in Dortmund after a 1: 5 against VfB Stuttgart and won the first match 2: 1 at Werder Bremen. Borussia showed a response, Fischer said: “They were very aggressive and kept pushing. I think I can see nuances that have changed a bit.”
Union surprisingly beat BVB 3-1 in their own stadium as a promoted team last season. It was the first victory in the Bundesliga for the “Iron” at all. “That helps you a bit. But it’s a new situation, a new championship,” Fischer stressed. Unlike in August 2019, when the atmosphere in the fully occupied An der Alten Försterei stadium was great, this time it is a ghost game due to the corona pandemic.
