Bietigheim (dpa) – The second division handball team SG BBM Bietigheim has surprisingly canceled its contract with world champion Michael Kraus, which was valid until the summer of 2021.
The 36-year-old could not meet the specified criteria of cooperation for private reasons, the club justified the separation from the backcourt.
“My duties as a father of multiple families and my entrepreneurial duties mean that I cannot currently bear the workload that meets my responsibility to the SG,” Kraus is quoted in a club statement.
The veteran, who won the 2007 World Cup title at home with the DHB squad and played 128 caps, moved from Bundesliga club TVB Stuttgart to Bietigheim last year. “Not only did he live up to our expectations on the field, but he also brought us forward in terms of brand awareness,” said Managing Director Bastian Spahlinger of Kraus. In the near future, however, “more people will be challenged than handball players”.
