Berlin (dpa) – The Bundesliga will have to play in front of largely empty spectators at least until the end of October.
Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the prime ministers of the federal states agreed that a working group at the heads of state chancellery level should develop a proposal to engage with fans at nationwide sporting events over the next two months. Major events where contact tracking and hygiene regulations are not possible should at least take place until the end of December 2020.
To what extent at least a few hundred fans will be admitted earlier, remained open initially. The restrictions on participants in such events currently vary greatly across the states.
The German football league presented a revised hygiene concept on Wednesday in collaboration with the German Football Association and sent 2 clubs to the Bundesliga and Bundesliga. The DFL’s 36 clubs will enshrine the guidelines in their bylaws at their extraordinary general meeting on September 3rd. This also includes personalized tickets for spectators. This would allow for the required contact tracking.
