Berlin (dpa) – Hertha BSC are still the only Bundesliga club to fail in the first round of the DFB Cup. On Saturday and Sunday, the clubs on the first floor more or less gained confidence against their lower class opponents.
Today Borussia Dortmund and Bundesliga have been promoted. Arminia Bielefeld absolutely wants to prevent him from joining Hertha in Berlin. The match of third division team Dynamo Dresden against second division team HSV is the most popular in the first round.
Dynamo Dresden – Hamburger SV (6.30 pm)
INITIAL SITUATION: After relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga, there was a change at Dynamo. 20 players left, 13 came. Trainer Markus Kauczinski has to put together a harmonious team. At HSV, coach Daniel Thioune makes his league debut. After two unsuccessful attempts, he should now be able to return to the House of Lords.
SPECIAL: Dynamo’s new sports director Ralf Becker is back in a position in the stadium for the first time in 16 months. Until May 2019 he was sports director of HSV. In Toni Leistner comes a real Dresdener who was trained at Dynamo with the HSV jersey. More importantly, the Rudolf Harbig stadium holds more than 10,000 spectators. That promises a great atmosphere.
STOMP POTENTIAL: Average
Rot-Weiss Essen – Arminia Bielefeld (6.30 pm)
INITIAL SITUATION: As a new Bundesliga team, Arminia is clearly the favorite of the regional league team with a great past. For coach Uwe Neuhaus, a win would also be important with regard to the start of the Bundesliga. “That would of course be positive for the atmosphere”, says Arminen’s trainer, who is still looking for the right mix. The new additions have not yet been integrated either.
SPECIAL: For Neuhaus, the competition is a meeting with its own past. The 60-year-old was born in Hattingen near Essen. He worked both as a player and as a coach at RWE.
POTENTIAL TO TRIP: low
MSV Duisburg – Borussia Dortmund (8.45 pm) dsds
INITIAL SITUATION: BVB wants to win the cup this time. That’s what coach Lucien Favre said after failing twice, most recently in the last sixteen as a goal. But Dortmund have often had mentality issues in the past in matches where they were clearly the favorites. The MSV narrowly missed their return to the second division and have a coach in Torsten Lieberknecht who can motivate a team like no other for just one game.
SPECIAL: Marco Reus’ return to competitive games is imminent. The BVB captain was injured in the Cup in Bremen in early February and has since been out with a persistent adductor injury. There is at least one short assignment to replace.
STUMPING POTENTIAL: Not to be underestimated.
