BVB has made fun of itself in Augsburg. The Dortmund team lacked ideas against a compact FCA. The Favre-Elf hardly played any chances – and in the end rightly lost.
FC Augsburg provided a surprise on the second day. The Swabians defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0. Felix Udokhai had put FCA ahead in the first half (40th minute), while newcomer Daniel Caligiuri scored the 2-0 winner shortly after the break (54th).
Haaland looks yellow after a push
In the first half, BVB was clearly the dominant team with 80 percent possession and 8-1 shots on goal. But FC Augsburg narrowed the space and defended compact – and became dangerous in turn. FCA striker Florian Niederlechner was able to start twice dangerously, but the referee whistled him back for offside (11th, 24th).
After half an hour it got hot. Augsburg’s Khedira fouled Bellingham, BVB striker Erling Haaland pushed Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, which led to a four-yellow card suit.

Shortly before half-time, the Augsburgers were increasingly looking for their chances and finally took the lead five minutes before half-time. After a free kick by Daniel Caligiuri, Felix Uduokhai headed his team in front (40th) before half-time.
Caliguiri seals Dortmund’s defeat
BVB had to come now, but even after the break there was little to see from Dortmund. But Borussia also lost their dominance. Instead, the FCA quickly switched and got BVB into trouble early on: Niederlechner deftly passed Caliguiri, who pushed the ball past BVB goalkeeper Roman Bürki and raised it to 2-0.
Coach Favre now had to react and brought national players Julian Brandt and Marco Reus for Raphael Guerreiro and Jude Bellingham. But the changes faded, neither could provide any decisive impetus.
Instead, Augsburg pushed for the 3-0, but neglected to gamble his chances.
Dortmund showed up again in the final phase, but was unable to convert his chances into goals. The unexpected defeat cost BVB important points in the championship. FC Bayern can drive away with three points in Hoffenheim tomorrow.
