Chase Carey is currently still at the top of Formula 1. That should change soon. Next year there will be a new boss in the racing series. Who that will be, of course, has already been determined.
According to media reports, former Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali will become the new general manager of Formula 1. The Italian will succeed Chase Carey at the head of the racing series next year, the specialist portal “Race fans” reported.
According to the BBC, the team bosses have already been informed about the staff. The American Carey will take on representative duties in the role of Formula 1 president.
Carey came to replace Ecclestone
Domenicali was team principal at Ferrari from late 2007 to 2014. He led Scuderia to their last world title to date and won the Constructors’ Championship in 2008. After his resignation, he took over the chairmanship of the single-seater racing car committee at the Fia World Federation. The 55-year-old has been the general manager of Lamborghini since 2016.

There has been speculation about a change at the top of Formula 1 for quite some time, after the long-term future of the racing series was recently settled with a new base contract with all manufacturers. Carey assumed the position of general manager in early 2017 after the American company Liberty Media took over the racing series. For him, the old Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone had to leave the post.
Should Domenicali take the role now, it could further strengthen Ferrari’s influence on the premier class in motorsport. Fia president Jean Todt was also Ferrari’s team principal for a long time. The current Formula 1 sports director Ross Brawn was technology director at Scuderia during Todt’s tenure and was instrumental in all of Michael Schumacher’s titles.
