Chelsea FC have missed the lead in the Premier League. The team around national player Timo Werner made a mistake at Everton. Meanwhile, the Manchester derby found no winner.
Chelsea FC, with German national players Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in the starting line-up, suffered a surprising setback at Everton after nine league games without a defeat. The Blues were defeated by former Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti’s side by 0: 1 (0: 1). In front of 2000 spectators at Goodison Park, the former Hoffenheim Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the winning goal for the hosts with a penalty kick in the 22nd minute.
No winner in the derby
There was no winner in the Premier League derby between the English record champions Manchester United and local rival Manchester City. The two teams, who have not lived up to expectations so far this season, played a goalless and largely boring draw in front of empty stands at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
The hosts, trained by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, had the best scene of the match shortly after halftime. Marcus Rashford got the ball after a presentation by Bruno Fernandes, but was fouled in the penalty area by Kyle Walker. The penalty decision for Man United was reversed after review by the video referee because Rashford had previously been sidelined.
In the starting XI, Solskjaer relied on French World Champion Paul Pogba, whose agent Mino Raiola had caused a stir this week by saying it would be “best for everyone” if Pogba left Man United in January.
In the Premier League rankings, Manchester United are in seventh place with 20 points. City is eighth with 19 points. Both Manchester teams play a mixed season. The Red Devils have won only six of the eleven games, while coach Pep Guardiola’s Citizens have won only five league games.
