Chelsea wins in the debut against Werner and Havertz

In the first competitive match for their new club, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz had their first three. Both national players showed a decent performance.

German national players Kai Havertz and Timo Werner started the Premier League season successfully in their league debut at Chelsea. The English football club won 3-1 (1-0) with the two ex-Bundesliga professionals in the starting eleven at Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday evening.

Werner receives a penalty

The Blues took the lead after a foul on ex-Leipzig Werner, who was brought down in the penalty area by Brighton goalkeeper Mathew Ryan. Jorginho (23) converted the penalty safely. Leandro Trossard (54th) equalized, the answer came shortly afterwards from Chelsea’s Reece James (56th), Kurt Zouma raised on a corner kick (66th).

Werner continued to focus on the offensive, capturing Chelsea’s best chance after the opening goal. The 24-year-old entered the penalty area at speed over the left, but Ryan saved his shot in the short corner (45 + 3).

The former Leverkusen Havertz initially acted rather unobtrusively, Callum Hudson-Odoi came in for the 21-year-old in the 80th minute. Antonio Rüdiger (27) followed his two national teammates from the Chelsea bench, the former Ingolstadt Pascal Groß was used for Brighton from the 79th minute.

In the first game of the evening, Wolverhampton Wanderers won 2-0 (2-0) at Sheffield United.
