US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien has accused China of being more active in trying to interfere in US elections than any other country. He claims that Beijing has launched a major campaign to influence American domestic politics. He also warned that those who interfere in the election will have to face serious consequences. O’Brien made the remarks at a press conference on Friday (4 September), according to The Guardian. However, he did not elaborate on his allegations.
After the 2016 election, US intelligence claimed that Russia had launched a cyber campaign to ensure Trump’s victory in the election. From that point on, it is feared that hackers may try to interfere in the November 3 election. But he has always denied the allegations. Their counter-argument is that Beijing is trying to influence the election and Trump will fall prey to it. He claims that China is at the forefront of trying to influence the US election.
“We know the Chinese are playing the most active role,” O’Brien said at a news conference on Friday, Trump’s security adviser. The US has made large-scale programs to influence politics. Iran and Russia are following them.
“We want to make it clear to the Chinese, Russians, Iranians and other skeptical countries (whose names have never been released) that those who try to interfere in the US election will face dire consequences,” he said.
