The back and forth across the Alaba of Bavaria never stops. After the failed negotiations, club boss Rummenigge has now spoken out – and sees the player in the decision-making obligation.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge sees the Austrian at the train after the failed contract negotiations between Bayern Munich and defender David Alaba.

“David Alaba now has to make a decision for himself,” said the CEO of the German record champions in an interview with “Sport Bild” after the broken negotiations on a contract extension to the question of whether the door was not completely closed. The club and the players have not agreed on a new contract in recent months. 28-year-old Alaba was allowed to leave the club for free in the summer of 2021.

“We’ve been going in circles for months”

Bayern chairman Herbert Hainer said on Sunday that the club’s offer, previously rejected by Alaba’s advisers, was no longer valid. Rummenigge justified the club’s move in the interview. “We’ve been going in circles for months. And at some point we have to plan for the new season, we need to know: will David stay with Bayern or not?” He said.

They are in tough economic times, noted Rummenigge, who has not yet drawn a line: “I think we all think the same here at the club: we all want David to stay. He’s a great person and a top player.”

Before FC Bayern won the Champions League against Red Bull Salzburg (6-2) Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic said the Austrian would retire as the most likely option. “I don’t know how to get together,” he told Sky.
