Former Bayern striker Luca Toni plans a career as a coach. The 43-year-old, who ended his football career in 2016, passed the coaching exam along with his ex-national teammate Andrea Pirlo, Italian media reported. This means that the 2006 World Champion will receive the UEFA Pro license, which is required for work in Serie A.
Toni had taken his theory exam at the headquarters of the Italian national team in Coverciano near Florence. He then presented his dissertation on tactics and technology to the examination committee. Besides Pirlo and Toni, ex-player Vincenzo Italiano also received the coaching license. In the new season he trains the Ligurian First Division promoted Spezia Calcio.
Toni had scored 58 goals in 89 games for FC Bayern between 2007 and 2009, won the championship twice and the DFB Cup twice with Munich.
