Mainz (AP) – Borussia Mönchengladbach’s sports director Max Eberl has defended his former coach Lucien Favre against criticism of his work at Borussia Dortmund.
“He is still the Dortmund coach with the best points. Therefore it would not be fair if you put everything on Lucien Favre,” said Eberl in the ZDF “sports studio”. After BVB’s surprising 1: 5 against VfB Stuttgart, things get uncomfortable in Dortmund.
“He is often compared to Jürgen Klopp. And that’s apples and pears. They are two fundamentally different footballers. One is very emotional and outgoing. And Lucien is someone who does the job very analytically,” said Eberl.
Favre had worked very successfully in Gladbach from 2011 to 2015, leading the club from relegation to the Champions League. After a bad start to the 2015 season, the Swiss resigned. In Dortmund, Favre always receives more or less clear criticism. When asked if it was fair to deal with him in Dortmund, Eberl said: “Each club has its own life, its own DNA. In Gladbach he could work in peace. In Dortmund he does his job. How about it? he is dealt with. I am too far away then. “
