Bremen (dpa) – 16 games without a win, so far only two points this season and now there is also a fuss about corona tests: things are really not going well at 1. FC Köln. And now for the Rhinelander it is still going to a place where usually not much is available.

At no other Bundesliga club has Cologne lost as often as at Werder Bremen. The FC returned home 29 times without a point. Most recently, there was an embarrassing 1: 6 defeat on the last day of the previous season, pushing the Bremen squad to the relegation spot at the last minute. “The 1: 6 is still an eyesore”, said FC coach Markus Gisdol, “we want to arrange that.” FC manager Horst Heldt agreed: “Everyone knows that such a defeat is annoying and now you have the chance to do better.”

Bremen, on the other hand, likes to remember the last game. “At the time, the game had its own dynamics, we suddenly developed a certain lightness,” said Werder coach Florian Kohfeldt. However, the result has no influence on the match on Friday (8.30 pm / DAZN). “It doesn’t matter in our preparation for the race.”

With three of them, the North Germans were able to refine their surprisingly good start to the season and enter the upcoming international break with a convincing twelve points. “We are well aware of that,” said Kohfeldt, expecting hard work. “It’s a typical 50:50 match,” said the Bremen coach.

The residents of Bremen have to do without Felix Agu, whose quarantine period was extended after another positive corona test. The Cologne may breathe a sigh of relief after a coronavortex on Thursday. All tests gave negative results. According to FC sports director Horst Heldt, there were initially some “unclear findings” on Thursday afternoon that caused a stir. The Cologne had postponed their training, the press conference and even the departure for Bremen. But then there was the green light for the journey to the unloved place.
