Cristiano Ronaldo is both celebrated and hated as an excellent player. “CR7” has already won all titles. He is a five-time world footballer, five-time winner of the “Ballon d’Or”, 17 times top scorer – and now also the first European to have a national team record.
The forward scored his 100th international goal in Portugal’s Nations League match against Sweden, making him the first European to break that three-digit point. Ronaldo made his debut for the Portuguese in 2003 and played for his country for the 165th time on Tuesday. Worldwide, only Ali Daei (ex-Bayern player) is better, who scored 109 goals for Iran.
“Landmark of a dazzling phenomenon”
“CR7” has also received respect and recognition from its peers. “100 goals, that’s the symbol of a dazzling phenomenon, a record-breaker like you. It’s the milestone of a monster,” said former Portuguese international Deco in a video from FIFA on Twitter.
Former squad member Nuno Gomes also said: “It was a pleasure to be your teammate and you are the pride of all Portuguese”.
