Aigle (AP) – Pro rider Dylan Groenewegen was banned for nine months after his brutal maneuver against badly fallen Fabio Jakobsen in the Tour of Poland in August. The world association UCI announced this. The Dutchman must therefore take a break until May 7, 2021.
Groenewegen was cooperative in the investigation into the incident and accepted the ban, according to the UCI. The 27-year-old had pushed his compatriot in the Tour of Poland in the finish sprint of the first stage at high speed. Jakobsen was hospitalized with serious injuries and operated on for five hours. Meanwhile, he was in an artificial coma. It wasn’t until October that the 24-year-old had to undergo another operation. Groenewegen has also not competed since the accident in which he sustained a collarbone injury.
