The sexism scandal surrounding Mick Schumacher’s upcoming Formula 1 colleague at Team Haas is entering the next round. Because criticism of Nikita Mazepin is growing. His racing team is also coming under increasing pressure.
With the publication of a sexist video, Russian racing driver Nikita Mazepin has now also summoned the highest authorities in motorsport. The world association FIA and Formula 1 joined the crowd of critics on Thursday. Mazepin will be Mick Schumacher’s teammate in the premier league Haas squad next year, but this promotion now seems questionable.
The FIA and Formula 1 explicitly supported the team’s response to Mazepin’s “inappropriate behavior,” the joint statement said: “The ethical principles and diverse and inclusive culture of our sport are of paramount importance to the FIA. and Formula 1. “
The issue is resolved internally
Mazepin posted the video to his Instagram account on Tuesday evening and quickly deleted it. In the scene in question, the 21-year-old sat in the passenger seat of a car and filmed grabbing the chest of a woman in the back seat. This defends itself against it.
The Haas team described Mazepin’s behavior and the video’s release as “disgusting” and the issue will now be resolved “internally”.
“Realize that I have disappointed many other people”
In an initial response, the billionaire’s son apologized. However, Mazepin’s message did not fully understand why his behavior was so problematic: “As a Formula 1 driver, I have to meet certain standards. I understand that I have disappointed myself and many other people.”
Just like Schumacher, Mazepin drove in Formula 2 this season and next year he will make his debut in the premier class alongside the German. Mazepin has repeatedly drawn attention in the past for its lack of discipline.
