Hurricane Laura has caused extensive damage in the United States. The storm killed at least 14 people, including children. Officials said more than four lakh locals had to remain without electricity in the coastal area on Saturday. Two lakh people have been cut off from the water supply. The US-based news agency CNN gave this information in a report on Sunday.
The storm killed at least 10 people in the state of Louisiana. Four more were killed in Texas. US President Donald Trump has visited the affected areas.
During his visit to Louisiana, Trump said, “As far as I can tell, this state needs to be rebuilt quickly.”
Trump said the casualties here are appalling. But the situation could have worsened.
Trump said he wanted to postpone a speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday. But even though it is big and strong, it quickly fades away.
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said extensive damage had been done to the northern part of the state.
Before the United States, there was a storm in Haiti. At least 31 people have died in the violence.
The BBC reports that more than half a million homes have been cut off by the storm, moving at a speed of 240 kilometers per hour. Chemical fires have been reported in at least one industrial plant.
