DFB defends itself for a flight from Stuttgart to Basel

Basel (AP) – The DFB has rejected criticism of its footballers’ short flight from Stuttgart to Basel for the national team’s second Nations League match against Switzerland (1: 1).

A journey by bus was not possible for the players for regeneration reasons, as sitting for two to three hours would have endangered their fitness and health.

The train as a means of transport was excluded due to the corona hygiene rules, said press spokesman Jens Grittner after Sunday evening’s game against the Swiss. The players would have had too many contacts outside the team because of the required change on the route.

The DFB entourage traveled on Saturday by charter flight instead of the approximately 260 kilometers more environmentally friendly by road or rail. Criticism of the social media and of the ZDF reporter in the live report of the match Switzerland.
