London (AP) – The oldest tennis player since the introduction of the world rankings in 1973, Novak Djokovic closes the season as number one.

The 33-year-old Serb can no longer be expelled from the top position because the Spanish number two in the world Rafael Nadal does not participate in the ATP tournament in Sofia, according to the professional organization ATP.

Djokovic closes the season for the sixth time in the past ten years as number one in the world and overtakes former American tennis pro Pete Sampras. The ATP Finals of the eight best tennis professionals of the season will take place in London from 15 to 22 November.
