An accident in Russia raises questions: eleven people died in a fire in a healthcare facility. Now the leader has apparently been arrested.
Eleven people were killed in a fire in a retirement home in Russia and several were injured. Authorities said a fire broke out during the night in the wooden house in the Republic of Bashkortostan west of the Urals.
Although a fire alarm had gone off, only four people could have escaped outside. Four women and seven men between the ages of 57 and 80 died.
Fire protection test not carried out for a long time?
The facility with its partly bed-ridden residents was not officially registered as a nursing home, the media reported, citing the local civil protection authority. Moreover, a fire protection test should not have taken place for a long time.
According to the investigators, the 43-year-old head of the house was arrested on suspicion of murder by negligence. The cause of the fire is being investigated. In Russia, serious fires with deaths and injuries occur again and again because basic safety regulations are sometimes not followed.
