Sinsheim (dpa) – TSG Hoffenheim goalkeeper Philipp Pentke is allowed to make his international debut at the age of 35. The ex-Regensburg is on Thursday (9 p.m. / DAZN and Nitro) on the program for the last and meaningless group match of the Kraichgauer against KAA Gent / Belgium for Oliver Baumann.
The regular goalkeeper will be spared this year for the Bundesliga final. “I am happy to give Penne a Europa-Legaue match, he deserves it,” said coach Sebastian Hoeneß.
This opportunity was not a gift to Pentke’s contract extension until 2022, which was announced a few hours before the press conference. The goalkeeper, who came from the youth of Dynamo Dresden, came over from second division Jahn Regensburg in 2019 and is highly appreciated by TSG.
Hoffenheim has already been confirmed as group winner, Ghent has no chance of progress without a win. Nevertheless, Hoeneß stressed: “We take the game very seriously and want to end the group stage with a win.” For him, it is about collecting impressions of the returnees that were among the corona faults in November. These professionals, in turn, need match practice.
With the fifth success in the sixth game, TSG can at least earn a prize of 570,000 euros. After the 0-0 victory over Roter Stern Belgrade and the four previous wins, Hoffenheim wants to experience the unbeaten draw for the first knockout round on December 14.
