European Championship 2021 – DFB President Keller: EM semifinals remain the minimum target

Vogtsburg (AP) – For DFB president Fritz Keller, the semi-finals remain the goal of the German national team at the European Football Championship postponed until 2021.

“Absolutely”, said the 63-year-old when asked by the German news agency: “The national team and Oliver Bierhoff have also set themselves the goal of being world-class on their own initiative.”

The DFB-Elf’s first appearance after the Corona break in the Nations League game against Spain (1: 1) on Thursday evening made him optimistic, Keller said. “For the fact that the team has never played together like this before, they did a good job. You could see how many talented and good players we have. Especially when you consider who was not there. I have a lot of confidence.”

As early as January, Keller had demanded that national coach Joachim Löw’s team “at least reach the semi-finals, perhaps the final” at the upcoming European Championship. “You have to set high goals”, he emphasized at the time.

This Sunday (8.45 p.m. / ZDF) national coach Joachim Löw will play against Switzerland in the Nations League in Basel.
