Vogtsburg (AP) – For DFB president Fritz Keller, the semi-finals remain the goal of the German national team in the European Football Championship postponed until 2021.
“Absolutely,” said the 63-year-old when asked by the German news agency: “The national team and Oliver Bierhoff have set themselves the goal of being world class.”
The first appearance of the DFB-Elf after the Corona break in the Nations League game against Spain (1: 1) on Thursday evening made him optimistic, Keller said. “For the fact that the team has never played together like this before, they did a good job. You could see how many talented and good players we have. Especially when you consider who wasn’t there. I’m very confident.”
As early as January, Keller had demanded that national coach Joachim Löw’s team “at least reach the semi-finals, perhaps the final” at the upcoming European Championship. “You have to set high goals”, he emphasized at the time.
This Sunday (8.45 p.m. / ZDF) national coach Joachim Löw will play against Switzerland in the Nations League in Basel.
