Sheffield (dpa) – A header from Everton’s Brazilian Richarlison likely destroyed Sheffield United’s last hope of qualifying for Europa League football.
Thanks to the decisive goal in the 46th minute, Everton FC won 1-0 (0-0) on the penultimate day in Sheffield. Sheffield was originally expected to fight relegation in its first Premier League season since 2007, but the team settled in the top half of the table after the break at Corona.
With 54 points, the gap between eighth and possibly seventh place for the Europa League is now three points. Seventh place is enough for the Europe ticket if Chelsea wins in the FA Cup final against Arsenal, because Chelsea already play in one of the two European Cup competitions thanks to their league position (3rd).
