Berlin (AP) – Former Tour de France winner Egan Bernal wants to concentrate fully on his recovery and has therefore ended his cycling season prematurely.
The 23-year-old Colombian announced on Instagram on Saturday evening that he will no longer compete this year and will not compete again until 2021. Bernal struggled with back problems during the 107th Tour de France this year and got out for the 17th stage. It has recently been speculated that the 2019 Tour winner will compete for his team Ineos Grenadiers in the Vuelta (October 20 to November 8). Bernal put an end to this now.
“Those were tough times, I have to accept that. But it also gives me great motivation to work even harder to feel comfortable on the bike again, to be pain free and ready to play it all,” he wrote. Bernal.
