Frankfurt / Main (AP) – Fortuna Düsseldorf’s goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier and Nordberliner SC amateur footballer Danny Teichfischer receive the DFB’s fair play medals.

Kastenmeier is recognized as the fairest professional, pond fisherman as the most beautiful amateur. The German Football Association announced this in Frankfurt / Main on Wednesday after a decision by the jury chaired by DFB vice-president Ronny Zimmermann.

The 23-year-old Kastenmeier will be honored after the quarter finals of the DFB Cup at 1. FC Saarbrücken in March for his exemplary behavior. Typically, professional teams flee into the team bus within minutes of cup defeats against lower-class opponents, the DFB explained. Kastenmeier had waited patiently after the 7: 8 penalty shoot-out against the regional league team until he could congratulate his opponent with a total of five penalties saved.

Teichfischer missed a striking scoring opportunity in one game and fired the ball out of the way when the opposing goalkeeper was injured on the ground.

Lara Schmidt of FC Energie Cottbus receives a special award. The 13-year-old passed on her top scorer trophy after hearing during the awards ceremony that an opponent could no longer play football due to a diagnosed serious illness.

The DFB is also honoring two relief actions this year: “We kick Corona” by national players Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka of FC Bayern Munich and the Corona support of SV Eitorf 09 of the Middle Rhine Regional Association.
