Berlin (AP) – FC Augsburg has taken the lead in the Bundesliga for at least one night. Coach Heiko Herrlich’s team beat runner-up Borussia Dortmund 2-0 (1-0) and is currently in first place with six points from two games.
In the top game on the second day of the match, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig separate 1: 1 (1: 1). Three days after the spectacular players’ strike, FSV Mainz 05 lost at home to the newly promoted VfB Stuttgart 1: 4 (1: 1). Borussia Mönchengladbach got no further than 1: 1 (0: 0) against 1.FC Union Berlin, newcomer Arminia Bielefeld celebrated a late 1: 0 (0: 0) victory against 1 in FC Cologne’s first home game in eleven years.
The German champions FC Bayern will play after the victory in the Supercup against FC Sevilla on Sunday at 1899 Hoffenheim (3.30 pm). In the second game on Sunday, SC Freiburg and VfL Wolfsburg will face each other (6 p.m.). Freiburg and Munich won their first game of the season last weekend.
In this afternoon’s top match between last year’s Champions League participants Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig, a spectacular opening phase developed. Emil Forsberg gave the guests the lead (14th), Kerem Demirbay quickly equalized for Leverkusen (20th). Seven minutes later, Leipzig newcomer Alexander Sörloth made his Bundesliga debut – earlier than expected and not voluntarily at the moment. The 24-year-old came before the injured Yussuf Poulsen – but neither he nor others scored goals in the second half.
In Augsburg, Felix Uduokhai (40th) and ex-Schalke Daniel Caligiuri (54th) shocked BVB, which despite clear superiority and more ball possession and scoring chances, did not get any hits and thus suffered a surprising setback on the second day.
The Mainz team took the lead three days after the sensational player hit Robin Quaison (13th). But Silas Wamangituka (45th), Daniel Didavi (61st), Mateo Klimowicz (80th) and Sasa Kalajdzic (86th) turned the game in favor of the Swabians. They were able to get over the yellow-red card against Pascal Stenzel (90 + 1). Moussa Niakhaté saw yellow-red for the team from Mainz (77th). After the heavy defeat, the unrest among the team of Mainz and coach Achim Beierlorzer should increase considerably.
In Bielefeld, Joan Simun Edmundsson of the Faroe Islands (78th) shot the hosts to the home success. The Gladbachers, however, missed three points. French striker Marcus Thuram shot Borussia 1-0 in his starting comeback after a long injury break (56th). But unions Nico Schlotterbeck (79th) met to equalize and missed Gladbach’s goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who stood between the posts for the 200th time in the Bundesliga, for the anniversary.
