First the triple, now Lewandowski’s election as world footballer: 2020 was a successful year for FC Bayern Munich. But the corona pandemic also hits the record champions. Sales fell significantly.
Three-time winner FC Bayern Munich has felt the corona pandemic financially. The German record champion had to accept losses in sales and profit in the 2019/20 season compared to the previous year, the club said.
As a result, the group’s total turnover amounted to EUR 698 million. In the previous season, the club had announced a record turnover of 750.4 million euros. Profit after tax decreased from 52.5 million euros (2018/19) to 9.8 million euros.
The financially strongest Bundesliga club judged the annual result “even positive” given the losses caused by the corona pandemic. Since March 2020, Munich has to play all matches in the Allianz Arena without spectators.
“Given the current situation, we can still be satisfied with that,” said CFO Jan-Christian Dreesen, the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. “The reason for this is not least because of the excellent successes that our team has achieved,” said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in the press release.
