Schalke 04 has signed Manuel Baum as their new head coach. However, according to a media report, the preferred candidate for the assistant position has been canceled: he prefers to stay in the regional competition.
FC Schalke 04 wanted to contract the head coach of the Lower Saxony regional competition club TSV Havelse, Jan Zimmermann. This reports “Bild”. Accordingly, the 40-year-old was supposed to become assistant coach to new Schalke coach Manuel Baum – but Zimmermann declined.
Havelses club boss Manfred Hörnschemeyer confirmed the interest of “Bild”: “Jan informed me in advance.” Hörnschemeyer continues: “Jan has canceled Schalke.” Instead of the successful fourth division coach (Havelse reached the main round of the DFB Cup and is at the top of the table in the Regionalliga Nord, Staffel Süd after four match days), Schalke signed ex-pro Naldo as an assistant. However, the Brazilian with a German passport will have to obtain the necessary coaching certificates in the coming months to be able to officially call himself an assistant coach.
