A debacle against Bayern, a shame against Werder – and a streak that could have broken a negative record. The start of the season was a disaster for Schalke 04. Now the club has pulled the cord.

FC Schalke 04 has fired coach David Wagner. The club announced this on Sunday. Wagner has not won in 18 games and was in last place with the Knappen after a crazy start to the season. The 1: 3 defeat to Werder Bremen was his last game for Schalke.
No successor solved yet
“We all hoped that together with David Wagner we could achieve the sporting turnaround. Unfortunately, the first two days of the new season did not yield the necessary performances and results,” sports director Jochen Schneider said on the club’s website.
Assistant coaches Christoph Bühler and Frank Fröhling also have to leave. It is still unclear who will be Wagner’s successor. According to media reports, possible candidates are Sandro Schwarz (most recently Mainz 05) and Ralf Rangnick (most recently lawn ball sport Leipzig).
Another candidate that Schalke fans know from “Eurofighter” times is Marc Wilmots. The Belgian is a legend among the Knaps and currently without a club.
