Mattia Binotto talks about Scuderia’s weak season – and agrees on one point with the four-time world champion. Binotto also talks about the future of the team.
For Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto, the Scuderia hit the “low point” last Sunday during the Formula 1 race in Monza. “To Monza did Sebastian Vettel saidthat it can’t get any worse. He was right, but we are working to improve the situation. From now on it can only get better, ” said the 50-year-old on Wednesday in an interview with Italian TV broadcaster RAI 3. In Monza, both Vettel and teammate Charles Leclerc went out early.
Last year, Ferrari would have had a lead in the engine “that we no longer have today. We developed a car based on a lost lead,” said Binotto. According to the Italian, Monegasse Leclerc could make an important contribution to the restart of the team. “But he still has to grow as a person, he is only 22 years old,” said the team boss. Leclerc has been under contract with Ferrari since 2019, Vettel will leave Scuderia after the season.
Binotto himself accuses himself of failing to recognize the difficulties of the SF1000 in time. It will take a while for Ferrari to be competitive again to win.
