A serious incident has occurred at a Finnish nuclear power plant. This has resulted in an automatic shutdown of the Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant, said the radiation protection authority Säteilyturvakeskus (STUK). Measurement systems measured elevated radiation levels in the facility.
However, according to the previous knowledge, no radiation has escaped from the reactor and there is no danger to the environment. No special protective measures are required. The operator of the TVO power plant also said the situation had endangered neither humans nor the environment.
Olkiluoto is an island off the west coast of Finland. It is located approximately 250 kilometers northwest of Helsinki.
