A fire broke out in a registration camp on Samos. The mayor speaks of intent. Apparently the fires have broken out in the kitchens.
On Wednesday, a major fire broke out at the Vathy registration camp on the Greek island of Samos. So said the mayor of Vathy, Giorgos Stantzos, the Athens TV station Mega. “It’s arson,” he added.
Household gas bottles exploded in several container apartments. He called on the Athens government to bring all migrants “now” to the mainland. Local media reported that the fire broke out in the camp’s kitchens.
Reminder of Moria
Currently there are about 3,800 people living in the camp on Samos. That is about six times the storage capacity of the warehouse. Several fires have broken out in and around this camp in recent months.
In August, a major fire completely destroyed Greece’s largest camp, Moria on the island of Lesbos. Public prosecutors have charged five Afghans with arson.
