When it comes to filling major resorts in the future administration of US President-elect Joe Biden, the first favorites are popping up. According to insiders, lawyer Sally Yates has good prospects to become the new Justice Minister. She was the deputy head of the department before Donald Trump moved to the White House in 2017. She moved temporarily to head of the ministry, but was fired only days after Trump took office for refusing to defend against criticism the entry restrictions he had imposed on citizens from various Muslim countries.

According to the insider, another attorney, Xavier Becerra, could be considered for the post of Secretary of Homeland Security. The son of immigrants from Mexico and attorney general of California is therefore considered someone who could campaign to reunite migrant families who were separated under Trump.

Doug Jones in talks as Attorney General

But there are other people who qualify for the top positions, the two insiders said, one of whom is a Democratic political strategist with ties to Biden’s transition team. Outgoing Democratic Senator Doug Jones, who lost the congressional election to Republican Tommy Tuberville, is on the verge of becoming the next attorney general to be debated.

In addition, the names of politicians who already held senior positions under Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama, such as Tom Perez and Lisa Monaco, made the rounds for this position or that of Secretary of Homeland Security. Biden was Obama’s vice president. His chosen number two is California Senator Kamala Harris.
